Another Super Summer!
Following two summers working around restrictions, it was fantastic to see a return to normality at Goal Line this summer. We ran a total of 5 weeks summer scheme, 3 weeks juniors, and 2 weeks for our YouthReach project. A total of 95 young people attended Goal Line over the course of the two programmes, which was really great to see!
Junior Summer Scheme
This year at our junior summer scheme, we had 86 young people registered for the programme, and up to 55 attend on a single day! It was wonderful to see so many new faces, and some familiar ones too!
“My child had an amazing time, and made new friends”
We had a wide variety of activities this year, from sports like football and cricket, to all kinds of arts & crafts. We had dancing and drama, and some cookery too! And of course we had some classic summer scheme challenges like the jenga tower competition, minute to win it, and our egg drop challenge.
Thanks to funding provided by ABC Council, we took our juniors on 3 trips this year. Our first trip was to Navan Fort in Armagh, where the young people participated in a warriors workshop, and learned about how the celts lived years ago, as well as design & make their own Celtic shield.
“Thanks for your support, for our son you‘re the best!”
We also brought the group to Oxford Island Discovery Centre. Here they took part in an art workshop, and got the chance to go pond dipping. The group loved catching insects and bugs from the water!
Finally we took the group to Armagh Planetarium, which they were really excited for. The planetarium put on a fantastic show all about the planets, and how they came to be. The young people then participated in a rocketship workshop, where they designed and created their very own rocketship! They got to launch these rockets into the sky outside the planetarium, which was great fun!
For our junior group this year we placed an emphasis on promoting healthy lifestyles for the young people. We provided a piece of fruit every day, as well as access to water and fruit juice for the group, which proved to be very popular.
We wrapped up our junior summer scheme this year with an outdoor fun-day, complete with bouncy castle games, and a talent show for our grand finale!
